Linda Schweizer Seeking breast cancer stories

I am in the beginning stages of writing a book on breast cancer.  I was diagnosed in May 2009, had lumpectomy in June 2009, bilateral mastectomy in July 2009. Started chemo August 2009.  Started Herceptin January 2010 and on January 25, 2011 was classified as CANCER FREE.  Throughout this whole process I kept feeling that there was a book inside of me begging to be written.  So I have started researching things I want to be in this book, and I have decided that I want to include handwritten… Continue

Lisa Grey Nightmare Before Valentine’s Day

Breast cancer can really mess with a woman’s mind. Hair falls out. When it grows back, it is often very different from the hair she once had. Body parts have been lost or rearranged. Chemotherapy has likely changed her facial skin prematurely…now there are random age spots, and her skin has lost some elasticity.

When she looks in the mirror, she does not see…

Lisa Grey New Beginnings: Eating Right in 2011

January always makes me feel like I have a fresh start. This year is especially filled with hope for me. I’m starting the year with a trip to Disney World!!!!

And by the end of this year, I should be finishing my PhD. YES!!!

Lissa Levin Guntzelman Tamoxifen and ovarian cysts

I was diagnosed with DCIS, and had a mastectomy 18 years ago, followed by 5 years of tamoxifen. I had a rapidly growing cyst on one ovary less than 4 years later, and as that ovary was compromised by the cyst (benign), I had it removed, and with my health history, had the other ovary removed. I then developed cataracts in both eyes and had cataract surgery. I am familiar with the connection between tamoxifen and cataracts, but a survivor told me that ovarian cysts have been connected as well.… Continue

Julia Whiteker Watch Survivors Kick up Their Heels!!!

This is a video of an flash mob dance we organized at my hospital to celebrate survivorship. It was so inspiring to be there and I wanted to share it with all of you. The dance was a surprise that a group of survivors and caregivers planned and practiced, and lots of people who were at the event were really surprised when we just busted out dancing. Several women who danced are stage 4, and some are still in primary treatment. Enjoy!…

DONNA RALL Just diagnosed 10/09

Just diagnosed with early stage DCIS in the right breast. Just had a lumpectomy yesterday. Incision not bad but feels like a lump above it where the wire was placed and that is sore. Is this common? Anyone else just starting out in treatment? Hoping to get the mammosite radiation for 5 days but dr says there may not be enough clearance from the area to the skin so may have to have the old 5 day a week for 5 week treatment. Hope not...mileage will kill me. Interested in speaking to others for… Continue
