Welcome all young survivors! I know this is especially hard for you given our unique circumstances! I hope we can all share our journey and our feelings openly in this group.
Hi Victoria, Mary, Lisa, Lisa, Rebecca and Karen! Wow - what an intimate little group here! I just stumbled upon it while reading about Carol Seavitt, looking for info on macrobiotics on Meg Wolff's site - and I happened to find a darling online friend - Peggy (Advanced BC) whom I met in Boston, last May at an MBC conference at DanaFarber Cancer Institute. Sadly, Peggy has passed away in June - though she did live 17 years with BC which is amazing.
Yes, I'll do anything for a holiday!! No, not really...I took my 6 & 8 year old princesses with me, (we're in Australia) to LA/Boston/NYC - it was unreal except for a hip injury that saw me buying a walking stick in NYC (tre 'un-chic' accessory - unless of course from a skiing accident!)
I managed to fit into a couple of groups here - young kids/advanced BC/and dx at 42! Not that I consider it an achievement!
Nice to find you - will stop in for a chat form time to time! I keep up with my 'pink crew' daily at another support site.
Hi Heather, welcome! I'm sorry to hear about Peggy. She sounds very courageous and was definitely a fighter! The macrobiotic diet sounds interesting. What's that all about. How's Australia? I'm dying to go there but not in my near future. I have a trip to Israel planned next summer. I hope you're feeling well.
Hi Victoria - the macrobiotic diet is seemingly more of a lifestyle, than just a diet, per se. Living in accordance with the seasons, eating locally grown food - chiefly whole grains; vegetables; sea veg;etc- adopting a mind/body/spirit approach to daily life is all part of it.
I chanced upon a book 3 years ago - "Recalled by Life" by Dr Tony Sattilaro, who took macrobiotics on board, reversing his advanced testicular or prostate cancer (can't remember!) - it was an inspiring book, and at the time, I'd had progression of bone mets, enough to make me scared witless into doing something extra. Carol Seavitt, who is on this site, in Advanced Group, also is on Meg Wolff's macrobiotic site - with her own wonderful story - good stuff.
"Australia" is fine - wet long weekend here- after months of endless sunny and hot days -weird for August/September - our winter to spring time.
Israel sounds fascinating - and a tad safer than our part of the world at the moment - earthquakes, tsunamies and such on our 'doorstep'!!
I'm cruising along fine healthwise at the moment -luckily! thanks, xxxHeather

Welcome Heather! Like you, I madea lifestyle change a couple years ago...prior to my diagnosis. I follow the "clean eating" diet, which really isn't a diet either.
Glad you have joined us!
I was off getting my nipples yesterday! LOL Only need to finish up with my tattooing in a few months and I'll be done with this process. I'll be one year cancer free come October 24!
It has been wet and soggy here as well. We did not have much of a summer in PA, and I'm not ready for winter!
Would love to get Australia one day...need to get a team started there so I have a reason to come!
Make it a great day everybody and live with passion!
Lisa
Thanks for the info about the diets. I've been steadily gaining weight since my treatment, probably cuz of the Tamoxifen. I'm going off of it in Feb (5 years), so I'm going to really stick to a diet then!
Have you thought about attending the Young Survival Coalition's annual conference? It's really fantastic! It'll be held in Atlanta from Feb 26-28, 2010. They might have some scholarships still avail. Check out the website at http://www.youngsurvivorsconference.org/

Be sure to get "The Eat Clean Diet" book by Tosca Reno! It's not really a diet, but a way of life. Another good book is Master Your Metablolism by Jillian Michaels.
Yes, the Tamoxifen will cause weight gain. At least it has for so many women I have talked to who have taken it. I opted not to take it.
I just found this site but wish I would have found it 7 months ago. I had a bilateral mastectomy 2/11/09 and am just looking into reconstruction options.
Good luck Jackie! And, Lisa, I purchsed both diet books and LOVE them! I just started reading the Jillian Michaels book and it totally makes sense! Thanks again.
